Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) of Goa
Birdlife International’s Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas programme was set up with the aim of identifying, protecting and managing a network of sites that are significant for long-term viability of naturally occurring bird populations. IBAs are in general places of international significance for the conservation of birds and other biodiversity which are amenable to practical conservation action, identified using robust and standardised criteria.
Bombay Natural History Society partner of the Birdlife International have declared 466 IBAs from India. A recent exercise has seen more areas being declared as IBAs from the country. As on date, four areas have been declared as IBAs and three more have been proposed for inclusion.
